Annual physical examinations and routine vaccinations are the core elements of a comprehensive health care program for every animal. These yearly examinations allow us the opportunity to get to know you and your pet better and to answer any questions or concerns you may have. They also enable us to quickly detect any possible health issues and address them before they become a problem.
At Big Bay Animal Hospital, we strive to prevent illness whenever possible and to ensure the long-term health and wellness of your pet. The time and effort invested in our wellness programs has rewards for both pets and their owners. These individualized programs are designed specifically for your pet and include a comprehensive physical exam, internal parasite testing, heartworm and flea control, vaccination program, spay and neuter package and blood tests for all life stages.
We believe that prevention is the best medicine. Let the highly skilled and caring staff at Big Bay Animal Hospital work with you to develop a wellness plan that will help your beloved pet live a long, happy and healthy life.
Many illnesses and diseases that plague our animal companions simply cannot be seen on the surface of the skin. For this reason, quality diagnostics are needed, which help us to delve below the surfaceand pinpoint the root cause of your pet’s condition. Diagnostic testing, such as blood and urine analysis, can help us to identify a number of health concerns like cancer, diabetes, kidney and liver disease and a number of other possible infections.
In addition to standard blood and urinalysis testing, Big Bay Animal Hospital also offers radiology services for our patients. Radiology – or X-rays – help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. Our new Digital in-house radiology equipment allows us to take and obtain instant images on-site. This enables us to quickly diagnose any injuries or malformations that may be affecting your pet and to promptly begin the appropriate course of therapy.
With many health conditions, time is of the essence. A prompt and accurate diagnosis of serious health conditions is critical so that an appropriate treatment plan can be developed and implemented. The extensive diagnostic services offered at Big Bay Animal Hospital help us to do just that, and our on-site laboratory allows us to gather and analyze results quickly and efficiently. The sooner we can determine if a problem exists and establish a proper diagnosis, the sooner we can work toward getting your pet back to feeling well again.
At Big Bay Animal Hospital we understand how stressful surgery can be for both you and your pet. Following surgery, we’ll do everything we can to make sure your pet is as comfortable as possible and we’ll work with you to develop an appropriate post-surgery plan. The goal is to get your pet on the road to recovery as quickly as possible.
At Big Bay Animal Hospital, we recognize that regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining not just your pet’s teeth, but his overall health and wellbeing. Poor dental care in animals can lead to a number of serious health conditions, such as lung, kidney and heart disease. It is estimated that 85-90% of all dogs and cats over the age of three years suffer from some degree of tooth decay and gum disease. Preventative dental care can help reduce the chances of your pet developing these dangerous oral conditions.
Big Bay Animal Hospital provides a wide range of veterinary dental services. We use ultrasonic scaling to clean each tooth thoroughly, both above and below the gum line. Our skilled dental technicians will polish your pet’s teeth to create a tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Additionally, regular fluoride treatments will help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity. The old dental proverb, “Be true to your teeth or they will be false to you” is as true for pets as it is for humans. Let us work with you to help ensure that your pet maintains a healthy mouth for life.
Radiographs (x-rays) are extremely helpful for diagnosing and monitoring medical and surgical cases. X-rays are useful in examining your pet’s bones, lungs, heart, abdomen, oral cavity and other areas. An x-ray can spot fractured bones, detect cancerous tumors, diagnose some diseases and locate obstructions or foreign bodies in pet’s stomachs.
Our clinic is pleased to introduce digital full body and dental radiography to our patients. Getting the perfect x-ray can be challenging for many. Digital imaging offers many advantages, besides high image quality.
Digital x-ray allows us to have fewer repeat films, thereby exposing your pet to less x-rays. It also allows us to send digital images to networked computers within the clinic as well as to doctors/specialists for consultation.
This new technology will allow us to continue to provide the quality care your pet deserves as well as allowing a significant more environmentally-friendly solution by eliminating waste from x-ray films and toxic chemicals required for development of films.
